Ground Water Levels 16/01/2023

This is a summary of the current groundwater situation based on the information available and conversations with experts in the field from 16/01/23:

In Twyford and Hensting, groundwater levels are high and rising. In the last 3 weeks, 171mm of rainfall has been recorded in Otterbourne. This is double the monthly average and is in addition to an extremely wet November 2022. In the last 24 hours, the groundwater level has risen by 0.34m.

During the next couple of days, there is potential for cellar flooding to begin affecting a small number of properties in Twyford and Hensting. Over the next 5 days, the weather remains dry, but groundwater will continue to rise until at least Saturday 21/01/2023 in response to the rain recorded on Monday morning 16/01/2023. Levels should begin to stabilise after this.

Further unsettled weather is forecast in February. Levels are likely to remain high or could rise even further in the coming weeks. We continue to monitor the forecast. If you use pumps to help protect property, please ensure they can operate.
