The GrOws Repair Café was back with a bang (thankfully not literally) last Saturday and we saw a steady stream of people coming through the door with a good variety of things to keep our repairers busy. The beautiful weather obviously made people think about getting back on their bikes as David and Jerry were kept busy tweaking and oiling, (and sweeping up ball-bearings that decided to go awol!) We saw a lot of electrical items this time so it was great to have the extra help from Mark, a new volunteer. Our three seamstresses (two from Upham) are always popular and Saturday saw them busy on their machines and painstakingly sewing several items by hand. We also looked at, amongst many other things, a lawn mower, Henry vacuum cleaner, high pressure jet spray and a standard lamp. I am always amazed at how unphased our wonderful team of repairers are, and they seem never happier than when they are gathered around an item, offering each other suggestions, tools, and materials to help get something back up to working order. A truly wonderful team and a HUGE thank you to you all.
The number of people coming in with items for repair was topped up with those just popping in to take a look and have a cuppa, with a delicious slice of something from the tea hatch. The tea team were working in over-drive and kept everyone “on the shop floor”, as well as all the visitors, topped up with refreshments so thank you for all your very hard work. When we shut up shop, the kitchen is always immaculate! A massive thank you also to all the bakers who generously baked so many delicious things to tempt our visitors…..our tea hatch is getting quite a reputation thanks to your skills.
And last but not least, we are very grateful to all of you who brought items along for repair or sharpening, and donated so generously to the running of the event. It is wonderful to know that we are providing a useful service! Whether it was your first time or you are a regular, we hope you will be back.
So see you on 17th May!
