Repair Cafe February 2026

The GrOws Repair Café was back in full swing on Saturday and we had a steady flow of people through the door on a lovely bright, sunny, Spring day!  Thank you to all our wonderful repairers who always impress with their willingness to have a go at mending anything that comes through the door.  We saw a wide variety of items, as well as the usual Spring sharpening extravaganza!   The textile team were kept very busy darning the holes that the moths had been very busy creating, and there was a lot of sewing too.  Unfortunately, the word hasn’t spread yet that we have a beaded jewellery repairer on the team now, so if you do have something for repair along those lines (rethreading, earings, bracelets etc), then let us know so that we can book Charlotte again.  The event involves so many….the tea team, bakers and helpers also work very hard to make the afternoon run successfully.  The café was humming with people all afternoon, some of whom had just popped in for a chat over a cuppa and slice of something from our well known “bakery”!  Thank you to everyone that came along and supported us, whether just for a cuppa, to purchase cakes, or for the more serious stuff!   It’s always great to see you.  We are back on 25th April so hope to see you then.

In the meantime, if you have something to repair, don’t forget that Upham is holding a repair café on 28th March 10-12.30 in Upham Village Hall.  They have supported us since we started with two ladies on our textile team, so please do support them if you can.

Repair Cafe March 2025

The GrOws Repair Café was back with a bang (thankfully not literally) last Saturday and we saw a steady stream of people coming through the door with a good variety of things to keep our repairers busy.  The beautiful weather obviously made people think about getting back on their bikes as David and Jerry were kept busy tweaking and oiling, (and sweeping up ball-bearings that decided to go awol!)  We saw a lot of electrical items this time so it was great to have the extra help from Mark, a new volunteer.  Our three seamstresses (two from Upham) are always popular and Saturday saw them busy on their machines and painstakingly sewing several items by hand.  We also looked at, amongst many other things, a lawn mower, Henry vacuum cleaner, high pressure jet spray and a standard lamp.  I am always amazed at how unphased our wonderful team of repairers are, and they seem never happier than when they are gathered around an item, offering each other suggestions, tools, and materials to help get something back up to working order.  A truly wonderful team and a HUGE thank you to you all.

The number of people coming in with items for repair was topped up with those just popping in to take a look and have a cuppa, with a delicious slice of something from the tea hatch.  The tea team were working in over-drive and kept everyone “on the shop floor”, as well as all the visitors, topped up with refreshments so thank you for all your very hard work.  When we shut up shop, the kitchen is always immaculate!   A massive thank you also to all the bakers who generously baked so many delicious things to tempt our visitors…..our tea hatch is getting quite a reputation thanks to your skills.

And last but not least, we are very grateful to all of you who brought items along for repair or sharpening, and donated so generously to the running of the event.  It is wonderful to know that we are providing a useful service!  Whether it was your first time or you are a regular, we hope you will be back.

So see you on  17th May!
