Choose your scarecrow! All are welcome to create a scarecrow for the sixth annual Owslebury Scarecrow Trail! It will take place through the village from Saturday 24th May to Sunday 1st June. Anyone living outside the centre of the village can have their scarecrow displayed on the Glebe Field. The organisers have come up with a theme that’s a bit different to previous years: “Something beginning with O”. They are hoping there will be a good range of different characters within the theme appealing to all visitors, young and old, but please remember it is a family trail. You could pick Ozzy Osborne or Olive Oyl from Popeye, or Olaf from Frozen or even Orlando Bloom. Further to visitor feedback, they would once again like to avoid any duplication of characters, so get your entry in early to secure your character. To register your entry, please send an email to Owsleburyscarecrows@gmail.com with the following info to check your idea hasn’t been taken already: – Your name – The name of your scarecrow – How many £5 maps you’d like Entry is £5. Deadline for entries is Friday 16th May. If you have an idea for a scarecrow but don’t think you have the skills to put one together for the trail, don’t worry. Please let them know you are interested and they will put you in touch with an experienced scarecrow creator to help make it a reality!
Proceeds from the final Sunday will be donated to the Epilepsy Society in memory of Elijah Khaira, who was a pupil at Owslebury Primary School.
Tragically, Elijah died in June last year from suspected SUDEP (sudden death in epilepsy). He was only 20. He achieved a lot in his young years and was a well-respected FA referee and a student at the University of Portsmouth.
His parents Samantha and Nick have given their blessing for us to raise money in Elijah’s name.
